Narrative:

On final we were assigned 170KTS until dymon. Just prior to dymon; we were told by den tower to maintain our speed until 1 mile inside the marker. We were not the only aircraft given this clearance. At the time it was technically VFR at the field; but we were still IMC until inside of dymon. We would not have been within our SOP's to comply. I thought initially there was a problem with the spacing with the aircraft behind us; but that aircraft was given the same clearance. In my opinion; this unusual clearance probably should not be used by ATC.
