Narrative:

Just after takeoff; the tower said that it appeared that we were trailing fluid. The EICAS indicated a gear door disagreement for only a moment and then altitude brakes/nose gear steering. After climbing to a safe altitude we worked the checklist; and talked to dispatch and maintenance. We all decided that the safest thing to do would be to return to the departure airport. We completed the loss of hydraulic C checklist and made a flaps 20 smooth landing crew coordination and crew resource management was good.
