Narrative:

I was instructing a primary flight student in a helicopter. Approximately one hour into the flight we were performing a normal left downwind when the conflicting aircraft; a vans; crossed mid field at 650 ft AGL. No radio calls were made by the vans pilot until helicopter made evasive left turn to avoid collision. There was about 200 ft vertical separation and 200 ft horizontal separation. Both aircraft radios were operational. The vans pilot and passenger became aggressive when questioned about radio procedure and failure to make any reports to airport traffic.
