Narrative:

During cruise; the left engine probe heat status light came on. Contacted maintenance control through dispatch and performed procedure they described. This did not fix the problem. My MEL and QRH information indicated no flight in icing. Dispatch could not and neither could I guarantee that there would be no icing the remainder of the flight to ZZZ1. I choose to land to ZZZ2 and to land a little overweight. For the reason of overweight landing; I declared an emergency and had the equipment standing by. Landed at the weight of 199.3; max being 198; at 100-150 FPM of descent and smooth landing. Great help from first officer and relief pilot.
