Narrative:
At FL360 the flight crew was notified of a passenger passed out in main cabin. Attempts were being made to revive. A doctor and nurse on board were attending to the sick passenger. I initiated a phone patch to dispatch for relay to a medical reference company. By the time I was in contact with dispatch; I was notified that we must land as soon as possible because the passenger was in severe duress. I terminated the phone patch and notified dispatch that we would be declaring a medical emergency and proceeding to the nearby airport. We were on the ground in approximately 15-20 minutes. Medical paramedics removed the ill passenger at the gate. The eemk was used for ivs in flight and the aed was unpacked but not used. We touched down at approximately 140;000 pounds; slightly overweight. Maintenance was called about both issues and the logbook was updated. No inspections were required. The flight was re-released to our original destination with no other problems.

Title: An A319 crew declared an emergency and diverted to an enroute airport after on board Medical personnel declared a collapsed passenger in dire distress.
