Narrative:

Was given a taxi clearance to taxi from our ramp that caught my attention for safety. With the high rate of taxi incidents in boston thought this information maybe helpful to enhance safety. Our clearance was approximately taxi to runway 4R via bravo; hold short of juliet. Looking at the chart one would think that holding short of runway 4L approach would be more correct seems bravo continues to runway 4R and juliet is off to the right side. Did what I always do when we get this clearance; when we got close asked if they wanted us to hold short of the runway 4L approach hold point; which we did. ATC said yes. Been flying into and out of boston for almost three decades so I am quite familiar with the airport. However; this type of clearance appears to not serve us well with this hot spot on the airport. A clearance to hold short of a runway always carries an additional level of attention. Would kindly suggest a conversation with boston ATC to review this procedure.

Title: Air carrier taxiing for departure at BOS expressed concern regarding the taxi procedure to Runway 4R; alleging the clearance to hold short of Taxiway J is unclear; suggesting a hold short of Runway 4R procedure would be preferable.
