Narrative:

Flight clt-ric, had 5 frequency changes out of 8 where controller did not answer after first call, 3 times not until third case and once had to go to previous frequency and told that was correct, WX was choppy and rainy below 6000. Told ric approach we wanted runway 16 and not 20 due to length of runways. He acknowledged, vectored us to follow corp Y. Had to go around because he vectored us to runway 20 for visual behind corp Y and we could not turn into runway 16. Climbed turning left around to 270, controller said head 360 (from 090). Told him we were in moderate turbulence and turning away from it. He told us there was another aircraft west and could we maintain VFR? Responded 'yes'. He said he did not know we intended runway 16. He was busy with 4 or 5 other aircraft within 10 mi of airport.
