Narrative:

A vapor trail was observed coming from out left engine. After visually confirming it and verifying that our left engine was in fact burning more fuel than the right we elected to return and land overweight. We declared and emergency and landed uneventfully. The fuel pump was in fact leaking badly.

Title: B777 flight crew is informed of a possible fuel leak on the left engine by Dispatch; whom was in turn informed by a company pilot observing the departure from the ground. Fuel monitoring and visual inspection verify a leak and the flight returns to departure airport.
