Narrative:
Just prior to takeoff roll out of mggt; with VFR conditions; mggt tower assigned routing after departure direct to kalpa intersection and to maintain 8000 ft until 10 DME for traffic. Since we could see all terrain we evaluated and used caution in accepting the clearance while referencing the chart and relationship of this path and relation of raymo intersection in the event a contingency plan would be needed. When checking on with departure control; he was unaware of our position and told us to maintain 8000 ft for traffic. We told him we were unable to fly present track (routing) to kalpa at 8000 ft and advised we would be turning away from terrain for better cushion if we had to remain at this altitude. VMC conditions were always maintained as well as visual contact with all surrounding terrain. After considering all factors; it seems as though tower and departure control were misunderstanding each other in relation to the clearance given to us.

Title: A flight crew departed MGGT and were given a change of clearance by tower. Once airborne TRACON modified the routing and terrain became an issue. Language and misunderstanding of the clearance was an issue.
