Narrative:
Normal flight until final approach (while in visual conditions) when gear down was requested by pilot flying. After selection of gear down by pilot not flying; we received gear alarm with only right main and nose gear green lights on. Left main gear green light was off. Red unsafe gear light on. Crew completed the emergency checklist; verified that system was operating correctly; by doing a gear system test in flight. Declared emergency and completed go around. Requested ATC vectors until all emergency/normal checklist lists were completed. Overflew airport to ask tower to verify that gear is down. Tower confirmed; 'looks normal;' after visual inspection while in flight. Completed all safety briefings with passenger (in case of evacuation) and flew for about 45 minutes to burn extra fuel. Proceeded to land and landed safely without any further incident.
