Narrative:
Early morning takeoff; dark; overcast. Captain was flying the aircraft in a right climbing turn after takeoff. Generator 1 and facility 1 failed; causing the captain's instruments to go blank. First officer immediately put hand back on the control stick to take control but captain immediately stated he was flying and first officer to do the ECAM; and then he states we have a generator 1 failure. Instead of transferring control of the aircraft to the pilot who has the only good instruments in front of him; the captain wants to maintain a right climbing turn by looking six feet across the cockpit at an attitude indicator the size of an orange; and then he takes his eyes off the instruments to look at the ECAM screen! Given the circumstances of low altitude with this guy wanting to perform a maneuver that is mind boggling the first officer kept his hand on the control stick ready to push the takeover command button and waited until wings level before accomplishing the ECAM.
