Narrative:

On departure climbing through 400 ft AGL; after flaps zero and yaw damper was selected; we felt a vibration and heard a rumble from the left engine. At this time we noticed a maxed out itt on the gauge. The left throttle was reduced and the itt came down to normal temperature. We continued with the departure and declared an emergency. The eec man annunciator for the left engine illuminated. That checklist was completed. The company was contacted and it was decided to add power to the left engine. When power was applied the vibration and rumble was heard and felt again. There was also a foreign smell coming into the cabin with power application. All went away when the power was reduced to idle. Because of all this we decided to secure the left engine in compliance with the engine fail/precautionary shutdown checklist. We then recovered at another airport due to its longer runway and better services.
