Narrative:

On takeoff roll at about 60-70 KTS; we got an amber master caution with an ECAM message: engine 1 compressor vane. I elected to abort the takeoff at that time. The first officer called the tower and advised them of the abort. We were directed to clear the runway onto the taxiway and advise them of our intentions. We asked for time to contact maintenance. First; I made a PA advising the passengers as to what happened and that we were checking with maintenance to see what course of action would be taken next. We then called maintenance and they advised that we should return to the gate. Shortly after arriving at the gate maintenance advised that the aircraft was being taken out of service and the gate agent said they had another aircraft for us. We deplaned and preflighted the next aircraft which was re-boarded and we continued uneventfully. The cause was possibly a bad compressor vane actuator.
