Narrative:
Pilot report on the fuel quantity was generated on arrival to gate by flight crew. I was notified by amt working aircraft that the fuel quantity had to be deferred. I went to the MEL; located the proper deferral reference. Notified maintenance control and received the authorization for the deferral of the fuel quantity only. I was not notified by maintenance control of the requirement to MEL the fuel quantity totalizer. I missed it in MEL details prior to the new revision for the MEL dated february 2010. Fuel tank quantity MEL's should also include the fuel totalizer under one authorization number. Was not notified by maintenance control that an additional placard was required for fuel totalizer. In the confusion of the operation I did not notice that it was required.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A Lead Line Mechanic reports he did not notice and was not notified by maintenance control of the requirement to also defer the Fuel Quantity Totalizer and apply a placard for the Totalizer after he had deferred one of the fuel tank quantity gauges on an MD-80 aircraft.
