Narrative:
During climb out the number one engine suddenly increased to 96%. It was then manually reduced back to 90%. Afterwards the number one tq (torque) gauge dropped from 90% to zero with all other parameters normal and in the green. We then requested to return to the airport from ATC. We did not declare an emergency since associated gauges were normal with no associated caution or warning lights. We landed without incident. On taxi to the gate the number one tq gauge went from zero to 156% and the engine was shut down immediately. We got to the gate; disembarked the passengers and had no further incident. It seems that the number one tq gauge had a bad connection thus providing false information.
