Narrative:
We received a gate call for an aircraft at a gate. Another tech and I went to look at way the R-2 would not arm (indication problem). Open and closed door many times; also armed and disarmed door. No help. We found moisture inside door where the arm/ disarm sensor is so we cleaned and reinstalled the cannon plug then operated door. No help. While I was talking to the crew; the other tech had the door open and disarmed when suddenly the slide blew. Maybe we should have a policy on removing passengers when working a door problem.
