Narrative:
On radar vectors near fay VOR, we were cleared by washington center direct to climb then ar-1 crew was distracted by cockpit duties and getting out charts and missed turning onto ar-1 at climb. Washington center advised us to turn back to course and we did. We did overfly climb by 20 miles (approximately 2 1/2 min) before being notified. Problem was exacerbated by a discussion among crew about whether ar-1 was defined by 1LM VORTAC or climb ADF, which contributed to distraction.
