Narrative:

At 6000', while trying to deviate around local heavy WX, switched over to dayton approach on a flight from cvg-ind. Dayton cleared us to 11000'. I, as captain set 11000' in altitude alert window and acknowledged clearance. At 10600' day told us altitude clearance was 10000'. We immediately descended to 10000'. I talked on the telephone upon landing at ind. I was told it was a mix up and not to worry. Let me also say that day was extremely busy since many flts were forced to deviate into their airspace. With all the confusion it's amazing more problems don't occur. Day assured me that no other aircraft were close to our position and thus, no conflict.
