Narrative:
Upon exiting runway 8L at Y; ground control issued a clearance to an airbus taxiing west on taxiway a to continue taxiing and that we would give way to them. We were not informed of this until we exited the runway and contacted ATC. We were able to stop quickly and miss the airbus but only by about 15 feet. I discussed the incident with the controller and supervisor and they apologized for the error and stated that according to the aim; we had priority because were we exiting a runway and that the airbus should not have been told that we would give way until they were able to communicate that clearance to us.
