Narrative:
The airplane had some air system issues and needed to be fixed. When mx finished working on the aircraft they determined the bleed leak was in the APU section and it was deferred. After; all three engines were started we got a level 2 alert 'air sys 3 press lo'. We ran the checklist then we started smelling the odor. The gaspers were pointing at our faces and it was determined that the smell was coming from there. As we were shutting down the engines we noticed a level 2 alert 'bus left emer a/C off'. Engines were shutdown and we left the aircraft. We both started feeling bad and sought medical attention. The hospital did blood work on us; the first officer had elevated [carbon monoxide] levels.
