Narrative:
Due to communication/navigation malfunction lost communications with ATC. We were eventually able to communicate with other aircraft on 121.50. We could eventually hear ATC on 121.50 but they were not able to hear us until after landing. We determined the safest route; due to proximity; was to return to departure airport. Due to the malfunction; we were unable to declare an emergency. Communication/navigation malfunction that was previously noted and fixed on the day before.
