During en-route phase of flight EICAS status message 'main battery charger' annunciated. Conferred with maintenance technician and dispatch then followed the maintenance message for occurrence and diverted to nearest suitable airport. Declared an emergency for overweight landing. No further problems encountered.

Title: A B757's EICAS alerted 'MAIN BATT CHARGER' while in oceanic cruise. After consulting with Maintenance and Dispatch; the flight diverted to an enroute airport.
