Narrative:
Hnl ground cleared us to taxi Z a rb hold short of RW26L. I was taxiing along a when an [air carrier] cut right in front of me. I had to jam on the brakes in order not to collide with [him]. We queried ATC if we were to hold short for [them] to which the ground controller said 'sorry'. Is no one paying attention in the tower? This is wrong when a [large] airplane has to take evasive action in order to prevent an accident on the taxiway. ATC should be doing their job and controlling traffic. The [other air carrier] had to make a 90 degree turn on the taxiway and was in too big of a hurry cutting [us] off on a straight away taxiway. He stuck his nose out in order to gain 30 seconds and risked the lives of many people.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A wide body air carrier Captain reported having to jam on the brakes to avoid a ground collision with a smaller air carrier aircraft at HNL. The reporter felt the smaller aircraft was over aggressive in his taxi; and ATC was not on top of the situation.
