Narrative:

After departing dab on ZJX, a clearance was received to intercept J53 from approximately 300 degree heading. While checking the hi chart I called out the aircraft passing through 13000', which was the clearance altitude on first officer's altimeter. After checking the captain's altimeters, I realized the captain's system was in error. The #1 altimeter was fluctuating as much as 2000' low and the #2 altimeter in corrected mode was also reading low. Captain initiated level off and selected standby on #2 altimeter. This altimeter reading then agreed with first officer altimeter. ATC reported mode C still reading less than 13000'. The altitude alert system was not activated. Aircraft was flown on to atl with captain altimeter in standby. Aircraft was written up and turned over to maintenance.

Title: MLG OVERHOT ASSIGNED ALT DURING CLIMB.

Narrative: AFTER DEPARTING DAB ON ZJX, A CLRNC WAS RECEIVED TO INTERCEPT J53 FROM APPROX 300 DEG HDG. THE #1 ALTIMETER WAS FLUCTUATING AS MUCH AS 2000' LOW AND THE #2 ALTIMETER IN CORRECTED MODE WAS ALSO READING LOW. CAPT INITIATED LEVEL OFF AND SELECTED STANDBY ON #2 ALTIMETER. THIS ALTIMETER READING THEN AGREED WITH F/O ALTIMETER. ATC RPTED MODE C STILL READING LESS THAN 13000'. THE ALT ALERT SYS WAS NOT ACTIVATED. ACFT WAS FLOWN ON TO ATL WITH CAPT ALTIMETER IN STANDBY. ACFT WAS WRITTEN UP AND TURNED OVER TO MAINT.
