Narrative:
A C750 was enroute to bur and came to me direct lax at 6;000. I instructed him to depart lax heading 310. I got distracted by the center with a manual hand off. Additionally several more aircraft came on frequency. The C750 got to within 2 miles of a C172 we had shipped probably 5-10 minutes earlier; who was also instructed to depart lax heading 310 at 6;000. I should have descended the C750 much earlier. He should have been at 5;000. Additionally; knowing that the C750 had a very good chance of catching the C172; after shipping the C172; I should have made him yellow on my scope.
