Narrative:
I put the airplane back in service after 4 years of down time. I had made several flights and did not realize the fuel sight gauge was inaccurate. On the accident flight when the aircraft reached 700 ft the engine quit. I made a landing in a soybean field. The nose gear broke off but the plane remained upright. I exited normally.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A Zenair 600 pilot was test flying his aircraft after it was idle four years. Because the fuel sight gauge was inaccurate the aircraft suffered fuel starvation at 700 FT and the aircraft was landed off airport in an agriculture field where the nose strut failed.
