Narrative:
[We] took off from airport on time. While flying overwater route south the number one flight attendant called to report heavy smoke emitting from the number one first class oven. She was assisted by the number three flight attendant and determined that there was no visible fire in the oven. Smoke was coming from behind the interior oven liner.there was no smoke in the cockpit. We elected to run the cabin smoke elimination procedure and in the meantime declared an emergency and diverted to the nearest airport which was less than 80 miles from our position. After several minutes the smoke was eliminated and no further smoke was emitting. We landed uneventfully at the divert airport; just under maximum landing weight; and taxied to the gate. There were no injuries and no passenger complaints that I am aware of.

Title: A B757-200 Captain declared an emergency and diverted to an enroute airport after the First Class Flight Attendant reported smoke but no fire coming from a first class oven. The QRH procedures were completed and smoke dissipated.
