Narrative:
While on taxi out for takeoff; the flight attendants called and said that they smelled electrical fumes in the aft galley and that they had already dissipated. We asked if they could ascertain the source and they could not. They said it could not be the coffee makers; because the hot plates were not on. We returned to the gate and had maintenance inspect the aircraft. Maintenance completed a thorough inspection and found spilled coffee in the drip pan and around the bottom of the coffee maker; and noticed a burnt coffee smell upon entering the aft galley. He said the spilled coffee in the drip pan could have splashed up on the element and caused the smell even though the hot plate was not on. The mechanic cleaned up the coffee makers; completed the discrepancy log; and returned the aircraft to service.
