Narrative:
Bur tower called us tonight advising us of a change made in the transition from the VNY7 to the VNY8 SID. On the VNY8 SID; the climb altitude is 5;000. We have never been told; briefed; or involved with this change. Our procedures are for all vny; whp; and bur departures to climb to 4;000. Bur tower is telling us there have been several read back errors on clearance delivery and questions raised by the pilots regarding the correct altitude. Why on earth did the charting people put 5;000 as the altitude to climb to? This is an unworkable altitude for us; as we have V186 traffic at 5;000 all the time. Recommendation; delete the altitude and get someone who knows what they're doing involved in procedure design.
