Narrative:

We needed to deviate west for thunderstorms. ATC cleared us up to 10 NM west of course. We had to go 20 to clear cells in the area. ATC advised; and we complied with declaring an emergency; squawking 7700 and proceeding as needed. We broadcast on guard our intentions; and stayed with ATC communication. Cleared the weather and returned with ATC instructions to direct an airway intersection. No separation issues; just foreign airspace issues. We could not raise the foreign ATC on their ATC frequencies. Broadcast on ATC communications that we were exercising captain's emergency authority to deviate.
