Narrative:
At approximately 1;500 AGL; pilot flying (copilot) asked for flaps 25. Te flap disagree EICAS message appeared as I selected 25 and flaps did not move past 20. We elected to go-around; informed sfo tower; who gave us heading 280; and 3;000 ft. Norcal gave us 5;000 and a 080 heading. I read through irregular procedure with pilot flying after autopilot was engaged; speed selected 170 to protect flaps 20 speed. At checklist completion; we had extinguished the EICAS message and had flaps 20. Checked landing distance in abnormal configuration section of aom landing chapter. Informed flight attendants and passengers; we determined normal landing and no preparation for evacuation would be needed. ATC vectored us in for approach and landing was normal.
