Narrative:
Arrived at gate; engine runing and beacon on; ramp proceeded to open cargo door and unload bags while left engine running. [I] asked ramp crew why they opened the cargo door with engine running and beacon on. Ramp looked at me with a clueless look. [I] spoke to ramp supervisor working gate and he said he will talk to the ground crew. Very unsafe condition for crew [and] possible severe damage to equipment.
