Narrative:
On departure teb runway 24 RUUDY2 departure; pilot flying climbed through the initial altitude of 1;500 ft at first waypoint. PNF was reading the after takeoff checklist. Problem arose when PNF did not monitor departure procedure. Contributing factor: PNF reading checklist. Discovered by ATC. Descended to proper altitude. Problem caused by pilot not flying not monitoring pilot flying's departure procedures. Pilot flying is a high time pilot and PNF/PIC was complacent because of this. PNF/PIC must monitor all flight segments paying particular attention to high stress/pilot workload situations.
