Narrative:

First; I'd like to say/acknowledge that the following issue is likely only a real problem in a CAT ii or CAT III situation. [The] displaced visual cue issues described below can be very problematic in very low visibility situations. Wrote up my aircraft yesterday; it is a new airplane. The flight path vector (fpv) in the HUD was displaced significantly to the left of the actual flight path. If I were to put my thumb and forefinger up to the HUD; the displacement would be about an inch and a half. Continued to be displaced very much incorrectly to the left throughout the approach up to touchdown; where the fpv disappears. The captain that took that plane after me did not use that HUD; as I had placarded it on arrival. Fast forward to a few minutes ago. The same captain; on the same sequence; one day later; just landed in at the same airport with a different aircraft; again a new aircraft. He called and said the exact same thing just in fact happened as had happened in our previous aircraft. There is an obvious problem in the new huds. This could be a very serious issue in the flare during very low visibility situations.

Original NASA ASRS Text

Title: A B737-800 Captain reported that several new aircraft equipped with the HGS 4000 HUD have a Flight Path Vector projection error which indicates the aircraft is on a path laterally displaced from the actual track to the selected runway.
