Narrative:

Our company operates four turbine powered aircraft for part 135 operations. These aircraft are equipped with the garmin 530/430 combination. On this day the garmin 530 chose the above location or around that spot to reboot. This is the second time this has happened to me personally. The previous time we were in IMC conditions heading toward the hom VOR from around the 250 degree radial. Our company pilots have been experiencing this 'phenomenon' for the last 4 years that we have operated the aircraft with the garmin combination. This causes a problem since the communication radio and also our backup navaids are also reset. This process takes about 2 minutes to complete; including putting the flight plan back in.
