Narrative:
Arrived at gate at mia on flight from pap. Normal engine shutdown and securing checklist were completed. I left the airplane and went through customs. I was later informed the fire department responded to a tail pipe fire in the #2 engine. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: shutdown and checklist were normal. First officer and second officer left the airplane. Ground crew told captain about tail pipe fire. Unfortunately, the APU was inoperative so there was no way the captain could motor the engine to blow out the fires. The fire department was called and put out the fire. No known damage to aircraft. Suspect that a faulty fuel controller allowed a fuel puddle to form in tail pipe. Crew has received no comment from the company concerning the incident.
