Narrative:

Commuter X was inbound to detroit metropolitan airport. Called me on approach control at 7000. I descended X to 6000' and continued to talk to other aircraft. A few minutes later aircraft X complained that he had descend 300' to miss small aircraft Y at 6000'. I informed aircraft X that the other aircraft was VFR outside the TCA and not talking to ATC. Also, I was too busy at the time to provide traffic advisories and didn't notice the traffic. Supplemental information from acn 94975. We were in cruise flight at 6000' MSL on a heading of 270 degree talking to dtw approach control inbound on a vector for a visual approach to runway 3R. First officer spotted conflicting traffic on a converging course slightly above us. We took an evasive action by descending approximately 300' and missed the traffic. VFR traffic should call for traffic advisories and flight following when flying through busy approach corridor.
