Narrative:
When flaps were retracted from 5 to 1 the le slat assym EICAS message displayed. First officer was pilot flying. He continued to fly while the captain and the relief pilot ran the QRH procedure to no avail. We notified ATC and were instructed to level at 6;000 ft. After running the QRH procedure and discussing the situation with maintenance and dispatch we declared an emergency; dumped fuel and returned to the departure airport.

Title: A B767-300 Captain reported EICAS alerted LE SLAT ASSYM after takeoff as the flaps were retracted from 5 to 1. The crew completed the QRH procedure; declared an emergency and returned to the departure airport.
Narrative: When flaps were retracted from 5 to 1 the LE Slat ASSYM EICAS message displayed. First Officer was pilot flying. He continued to fly while the Captain and the Relief Pilot ran the QRH procedure to no avail. We notified ATC and were instructed to level at 6;000 FT. After running the QRH procedure and discussing the situation with Maintenance and Dispatch we declared an emergency; dumped fuel and returned to the departure airport.
