Narrative:

Cruising at FL370; engine screen came up with flashing 4.0 on oil quantity on #1 engine. Maintenance and dispatch contacted. Maintenance stated if oil pressure and temperature were normal that we could continue. They were; but we instead diverted. Emergency was declared and safe landing and taxi to gate was accomplished. [We] diverted because we could not justify why we would continue with low oil quantity showing even though maintenance suggested otherwise.

Title: After an A320 ECAM alerted engine one OIL QUANTITY 4 at cruise Maintenance recommended continued flight because pressure and temperature were normal but the crew diverted because of the unusual engine operating condition.
