Captain was the flying pilot and remained the flying pilot throughout the emergency. Captain was hand flying the flight at the time. Autopilot was engaged and aircraft leveled at 3;300 MSL and captain assumed the radio. Crew followed standard procedures for the emergency. QRH was performed by the first officer/non-flying pilot for engine (2) fail. QRH engine (2) fail; QRH APU in-flight start procedure; QRH single engine approach and landing; QRH overweight landing procedure; climb check; descent check; approach check; landing check after visual approach/ILS backup to the runway.

Title: An ERJ170's number two engine failed climbing to 3;000 FT so an emergency was declared; the engine failure QRH procedure completed; then a normal landing accomplished after the normal climb; approach and landing checklists were completed.
