Narrative:
On descent the left engine failed; with engine fail indication. As we began engine failure checklist it re-lit. We advanced the throttle slowly to see if it was generating power it began to vibrate and shudder mildly and egt began to rise. Then went to the engine limit / surge/stall qrc and shut the engine down. Declared emergency; entered 7700 in the transponder and proceeded for an uneventful single engine landing. Fire trucks met us while exiting the runway and escorted us to our gate.
