Narrative:
We were taking the runway for normal takeoff when the flight/taxi switch was activated as required and the contents of #1 hydraulic system reservoir were lost. Caution lights for affected flight controls also illuminated. Aircraft was taxied off runway and back to gate; ATC was contacted to cancel IFR clearance. Dispatch; maintenance and operations were contacted. The passengers were deplaned and the flight was subsequently canceled.

Title: A Dash 8-100 suffered the loss of fluid in the #1 hydraulic system as the flight crew configured for takeoff. The takeoff was rejected and the flight canceled.
