Narrative:
Per the latest revision I was stationed in the middle of the aisle away from my jumpseat during the safety video instead of near door 5R as before. The captain slammed on the brakes at some point in taxi and I stumbled--but; luckily; didn't get hurt. However; I did see a passenger get up and dart to the lavatory before I could stop him which delayed our progress. Had I been near my door I could have sent him back to his seat. Then another passenger alerted me to fuel leaking out of right wing--after we were almost to the runway. We ended up delayed five hours and fined by the city for the fuel spill and almost took off with leaking fuel tank. Had I been at my door as in the past I would have seen this much earlier and possibly avoided the delay. In the middle of the aisle is the dumbest place for a flight attendant to be standing during safety video...period!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B747-400 Flight Attendant expressed her displeasure with the revised airline policy that required her to be in the middle aisle of the coach cabin during the passenger safety video. She believes several anomalies; including the discovery of a significant fuel leak; may have been resolved in a more timely fashion had she been in her cabin jumpseat as previously required.
