Narrative:
On this flight I was departing runway 30 and received approval from the tower for an early southbound turn. This departure path takes me either near to or through the runway 25L pattern. There was another aircraft doing training in closed traffic. Our aircraft came close as he was making his left turn from crosswind to downwind. The weather was hazy; lighting was diffuse and the color of the other aircraft all added to my inability to see it until it was close. I believe that the situation was exacerbated by the other aircraft descending while in his turn and descending further once he saw me.
