Narrative:

I had departed from ffo on a 180 course and had just been released by tower. I was not in radar contact after that. I made a left climbing easterly turn staying out of ffo airspace going from 2;500 to 4;500 and was in the process of changing radio frequency and looked up and saw a white piper cross in front of me about 300/400 ft above me crossing from left to right. I then took a heading of approximately 030 and looked off my left wing to see if I could spot the aircraft but it was gone. Upon return to ffo I reported the incident.
