Narrative:

After takeoff and shortly after the landing gear was selected up; got a #2 iso valve caution light; #2 quantity indicated down to one quart. There was a combination of red; amber; and green lights on the gear indication panel. In other words; we had the right gear and nose gear still hanging down while the left main gear was up and some gear doors were also hanging down. I was told by maintenance once back at the gate; [that] a line somewhere in the nose well area had ruptured. [It] must have happened when the gear was selected up. [We] declared an emergency; returned to the field; and performed alternate gear extension; following proper checklist and company procedures.

Title: A Dash 8 Captain reported losing hydraulic quantity shortly after takeoff; resulting in partial landing gear retraction. A manual extension was accomplished; an emergency declared; and normal landing ensued.
