Narrative:

VFR aircraft heading 090 degree at 8000' (incorrect VFR altitude and even vs. Odd). Traffic initially called at 12 O'clock, 7800' unverified at 6 mi. We reported 'no contact.' traffic then reported at 12 O'clock 8000' and we were given a left 20 degree turn (new heading 225 degree); 15 seconds (approximately) later we were given a heading of 180 degree and 'traffic conflict alert.' at that point other aircraft at 1.5 to 2 mi, I saw other aircraft on a collision bearing. The left turn vector had lined us up perfectly! At that point I disconnected autoplt and autothrottle and made an evasive maneuver in the vertical and a turn reversal to the right. We passed 800' (8800' MSL) above and approximately 1/4 mi south of the small aircraft. We immediately advised approach of our deviation and rejoined the arrival course and altitude as cleared. The eastern portion of the la basin continues to be the most dangerous airspace on our system.

Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT BETWEEN ACR MLG AND GA SMA.

Narrative: VFR ACFT HDG 090 DEG AT 8000' (INCORRECT VFR ALT AND EVEN VS. ODD). TFC INITIALLY CALLED AT 12 O'CLOCK, 7800' UNVERIFIED AT 6 MI. WE RPTED 'NO CONTACT.' TFC THEN RPTED AT 12 O'CLOCK 8000' AND WE WERE GIVEN A LEFT 20 DEG TURN (NEW HDG 225 DEG); 15 SECONDS (APPROX) LATER WE WERE GIVEN A HDG OF 180 DEG AND 'TFC CONFLICT ALERT.' AT THAT POINT OTHER ACFT AT 1.5 TO 2 MI, I SAW OTHER ACFT ON A COLLISION BEARING. THE L TURN VECTOR HAD LINED US UP PERFECTLY! AT THAT POINT I DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND AUTOTHROTTLE AND MADE AN EVASIVE MANEUVER IN THE VERT AND A TURN REVERSAL TO THE R. WE PASSED 800' (8800' MSL) ABOVE AND APPROX 1/4 MI S OF THE SMA. WE IMMEDIATELY ADVISED APCH OF OUR DEVIATION AND REJOINED THE ARR COURSE AND ALT AS CLRED. THE EASTERN PORTION OF THE LA BASIN CONTINUES TO BE THE MOST DANGEROUS AIRSPACE ON OUR SYS.
