Narrative:
On descent into pit on vectors for approach to runway 32, approach control cleared us to 7000'. As we left 10000', approach told us of traffic at 1 O'clock at 6000', an small transport. We were scanning for him when my first officer exclaimed '@#$@#, look at that,' and although I was flying, he took the control wheel momentarily to make a slight right turn. I then realized what he was looking at--it was a single engine small aircraft at 8500' VFR, wsw bound. At that point I took over and made a gentle, further right turn as the small aircraft passed off our left. Approach did not see him, nor have him on radar. He (approach) asked the small aircraft which way he was going. I told him, and he said he would look for the aircraft. We then continued to the airport for an uneventful approach.

Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT BETWEEN DESCENDING IFR MLG AND VFR SMA IN LEVEL FLT.
Narrative: ON DSCNT INTO PIT ON VECTORS FOR APCH TO RWY 32, APCH CTL CLRED US TO 7000'. AS WE LEFT 10000', APCH TOLD US OF TFC AT 1 O'CLOCK AT 6000', AN SMT. WE WERE SCANNING FOR HIM WHEN MY F/O EXCLAIMED '@#$@#, LOOK AT THAT,' AND ALTHOUGH I WAS FLYING, HE TOOK THE CONTROL WHEEL MOMENTARILY TO MAKE A SLIGHT RIGHT TURN. I THEN REALIZED WHAT HE WAS LOOKING AT--IT WAS A SINGLE ENG SMA AT 8500' VFR, WSW BOUND. AT THAT POINT I TOOK OVER AND MADE A GENTLE, FURTHER RIGHT TURN AS THE SMA PASSED OFF OUR LEFT. APCH DID NOT SEE HIM, NOR HAVE HIM ON RADAR. HE (APCH) ASKED THE SMA WHICH WAY HE WAS GOING. I TOLD HIM, AND HE SAID HE WOULD LOOK FOR THE ACFT. WE THEN CONTINUED TO THE ARPT FOR AN UNEVENTFUL APCH.
