Right main landing gear would not indicate down and locked on approach. Troubleshot in the pattern and went to [a more appropriate airport] for landing. Landed without incident and rescue trucks followed me [to ramp]. ATC asked if I wanted rescue trucks out upon landing and I said yes just to be safe. I believed that the gear was securely down from what tower saw on a low fly by.
