Narrative:
Airplane departed teb [with] clearance altitude of 1;500 ft MSL. At approximately 1;300 ft MSL an amber cas message [alerted] 'elevator trim fail' and 'autopilot trim fail.' the airplane was being hand flown and went to 1;700 ft for about 1 second and returned to 1;500 ft. ATC queried us and at the moment they asked we were at 1;590 ft MSL. The cas messages only lasted about 15 seconds. There were no separation issues. The airplane was trimmed for takeoff. The trim failure was short lived; but distracting and at a bad time. Electronic airplanes - gotta love them!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A G550 over shot the TEB RUUDY 4 initial level off altitude of 1;500 FT because both elevator and autopilot trim systems momentarily failed and so the aircraft did not level until the pilot manually returned to 1;500 FT.
